About me

As you've probably guessed, my name is Kathy. I'm 24 and am employed at a grocery store bakery.  During my time there I've gained a lot of experience with decorating cakes and allowed to be creative with my design experiments.  My first day on the job, I received a crash course in decorating. I was shown the very smallest of basics on how to write with frosting. My trainer/boss was called away for a while so I was left all alone. Not even five minutes after she left I had a customer wanting me to fill out a cake decorating order which included writing and designs.  At this point, I have NO idea what to do for decorations and she wasn't very specific on what she wanted even though I kept asking.  I'm sure if she wasn't entirely pleased with what she received but I think that experience is what drove me to quickly learn how to decorate and do it well. I'm always striving to get better and find new creative ideas for cakes. I don't always get to use my ideas at work as we have to follow templates and legal things get in the way as well. When I can't get an idea I want done at work, I tend to find any excuse to say "hey lets celebrate ______ with a cake!" and do what I can at home.
I've experimented a little with fondant but I will admit I don't full understand how to work with it. Most of the cakes are made with buttercream icing. Some of the cakes posted are made at work and some are made at home.
